Hello everyone,

I have just sent out an email to let you know about a live Zoom session I will be hosting for the Pen Pen Pattern course, and I wanted to share all the details here as well.

The session will be on 15th July at 5 p.m. UK time. I know that scheduling is never perfect for everyone, and I did not have many options available, so I really hope this time works for as many of you as possible.

We will finish comfortably before the football starts later in the evening, so for anyone planning to watch, you will not miss out.

In this live session, there will be plenty of space for questions, and also a gentle invitation to simply begin or continue the course together if you have not started yet.

There is a new free tutorial waiting for you in the Art Materials Explained series!

This week we are exploring black paper and all the wonderful ways you can use it in your sketchbook. Together we create a small abstract page and a colourful hummingbird drawing, while experimenting with different materials including soft pastels, oil pastels, gel pens and shimmering colours.

If you have a black sketchbook tucked away somewhere, or you have been curious about trying black paper for the first time, I hope this inspires you to have a play.

I would love to hear if you have worked on black paper before and what your favourite materials are to use on it.

I’m really enjoying diggers lol. Like Irene said, I have no preconceptions about any part (except the tires and that is why they are a little “off”). so it is much easier to be satisfied with the result. I was also happily surprised to see the highlighter did not go through my page. I will have to use them more often for art.
