Autumn Creative Reset

Dust Off Your Art Materials, and Fall Back in Love with Your Sketchbook

12 - 25 October

A 2-week creative reset inside Sketchbook Circle.

Use the art supplies you already own, give yourself full permission to play, and fill your sketchbook with colour, joy and ideas that are actually you.

You know that drawer?

The one with the half-used pastels, the ink set you bought "for a project," the markers you were too nervous to try in case you "wasted" them.

Autumn is the perfect moment to open it back up. The nights are drawing in, routines are settling, and there's a particular kind of cosy energy that makes sitting down with a sketchbook feel like coming home.

This is your invitation to stop saving your materials for "someday" and start playing with them today, messily, joyfully, without a plan.

This is the perfect season to sketchbook!

What it is:

The Autumn Creative Reset is a 2-week bootcamp inside Sketchbook Circle.

For 14 days, you get full access to the community, plus a set of extra sessions built entirely around one idea: rediscovering the art materials you already own.

You'll be guided to experiment, mix media, loosen up, let go of perfectionism, and reconnect with the kind of playful, curious energy you probably had with art as a kid, before anyone told you it had to look a certain way.

What is included:

Full Sketchbook Circle community access for 2 weeks, every regular weekly live session, every feature of the community, all the connection and support.

✅ 4 themed videos, made just for this reset:

  • Why Autumn Is Your Creative Moment: why this season is the best time to start (or restart) a sketchbook practice

  • Art Materials for Autumn: what to reach for, and how to get started if you're beginning from scratch

  • Mixing & Combining Materials: playing with mixed media, layering, and safe (and surprising) combinations

  • From Dusty Stash to Creative Joy: how to test, swatch, and fall back in love with materials you'd written off

✅ 1 extra live session on incorporating unused/forgotten materials into your everyday sketchbook practice

✅ 1 extra live Q&A — bring your own dusty drawer questions; get real answers on what to do with what you've got

✅ My personal favourites, tips and tricks, the materials I reach for, the exercises I use to loosen up, and honest talk about what's actually worth buying next (and what isn't)

The class was lovely. Irene is a great teacher. I felt safe and carried.

£25 gets you in for 2 weeks — and it doesn't disappear afterwards

Join the Autumn Creative Reset for £25, and if you decide to stay on and join Sketchbook Circle's annual membership (£180/year) afterwards, your £25 comes straight off the price.

  • Autumn Creative Reset: £25 (2 weeks, Oct 1–14)

  • Stay on with annual membership: £180/year normally → £155 with your £25 credited

No pressure to continue — if the reset isn't for you, your access simply ends on October 25th. If it is for you, staying on costs you less than joining fresh.

FAQ:

Do I need any particular art materials to join?

No — that's the whole point. Bring whatever you already own. If you want to buy anything, I'll share my personal recommendations, but nothing is required.

I'm a complete beginner. Is this too advanced for me?

Not at all. This reset is built to work whether you're picking up a sketchbook for the first time or you've been at it for years. Everything is about play, not skill level.

What happens after the 2 weeks?

Your access ends automatically on October 14th. If you'd like to stay in Sketchbook Circle, you can join the annual membership and your £25 will be credited off the price — no separate discount code needed, it's automatic.

Can I still access the live sessions if I can't make them live?

Yes — every session is recorded and shared in the community, so you can catch up in your own time.

Is this a course I keep forever, or does it disappear?

It's a 2-week extra live experience inside the community, not a self-paced course. It will disappear after the two weeks but will reopen again next autumn.

Your sketchbook is waiting. So are your materials.

Fourteen days. Whatever's already in your art box. No pressure to be good at it, just permission to play.

Invite Your Friends:

Know a friend, neighbour, or parent who would love to start drawing but feels insecure? Invite them along! The more, the merrier.

Hi, I'm Irene Ruby.

I'm a mixed media sketchbook artist, and I love using art materials of every kind, the more unexpected the combination, the better.

I didn't always think of myself as an artist. I went to a Steiner school, which is about as creative an education as you can get, but afterwards I studied law and drifted away from making things altogether. At some point I realised I wanted my life to look different, so I quit my corporate job and started Makings and Musings. That's the story in a nutshell, you can read the fuller version of my Makings and Musings origin story

These days I teach mostly through online courses and classes, though I've run in-person events too. I spent a while illustrating children's books and taking on art commissions, but my focus now is teaching — both in my community, Sketchbook Circle, and through my courses.
