spring-inspired mixed media Landscape
In this spring-inspired mixed media class, I guide you through creating a soft, atmospheric landscape filled with light, colour, and texture. We begin by building a loose foundation with watercolours, focusing on fresh greens and a slightly moody sky, before gradually layering in details using a range of other materials.
You can also find the recording in the library under 'mixed media'.
I share my approach to mixed media as something playful and freeing rather than complicated. We use each material for what it does best, allowing the process to unfold step by step. You will see how to block in colour first, then slowly bring the scene to life with texture, contrast, and small details.
Just a little reminder to share your artwork in the group, I love seeing all the beautiful creations and it truly makes the space feel so alive; everyone who shares is entered into my monthly giveaway where I choose one person to receive a little bundle of art materials, and if you would like to revisit the session, all recordings are in the community library and I will be adding this one there as well.
Together, we explore how to:
Create a sense of depth with simple colour changes
Paint an expressive, slightly stormy sky with soft blends and happy accidents
Build a field of spring flowers using loose, intuitive marks
Layer different materials without feeling overwhelmed
Embrace the messy stages and trust your own creative decisions
By the end of the class, you will have your own unique version of the landscape. Everyone’s piece turns out beautifully different, which is always my favourite part.
This is a relaxed, supportive session where you can experiment, play, and simply enjoy making something with your hands. You do not need to have all the materials I use, I always encourage you to adapt with what you have.
