Underwater Schools of Fish — Watercolour Class Recording

Hi everyone,

This is the recording from our class last night. I really loved painting this one, I found it incredibly relaxing, and it is such a lovely way to practise your brush control with all those little fish shapes.

I thought Bel had a brilliant idea using a separate piece of paper to practise her fish first, so do try that if you would like a bit of confidence before going onto your final piece. And truly, it does not matter if your fish look a bit wonky. Someone mentioned theirs looked more like tadpoles, and I actually think that is part of the charm. Mine are not far off either. They really do not need to be perfect to feel lively and full of movement.

I would recommend using a hairdryer if you have one, especially for those first very wet background layers, as it helps speed things along quite a bit. If you do not have one, simply paint your background, step away for a little while, and come back once it is dry. The fish layers dry quite quickly, so you can easily approach this in two stages if that suits your day better.

The recording is now available in the library, all edited and ready for you.

I am really looking forward to seeing what you create with this one. I will see you next week for our final art class of April, which somehow has come around very quickly. Time really does fly. We will be painting a fennel spread next week, and I cannot wait to explore that with you.

I also promised to share a list of recommended brushes. I have not forgotten, I will create a separate post for that so it is easy to find, and I will get that up for you today.

Thank you so much, and I will see you very soon.

x Irene
