Candle

My paper doesn't allow me to spread the paint much. It dries really quick.
To do those white parts I ruined the paper 🫣 (it's 160gsm)
I don't know if the issue is from the paper or if it's because I'm using solid watercolours.

Hi Jo, The painting is great, the proportions and light in the candle art beautiful!
I think the reason you are struggling spreading the paint is the paper - 160 gsm is on the thin side for watercolours (I use 300gsm usually). The solid watercolours shouldn't make a difference. I would recommend using this paper for Gouache (if you have it, as it requires less water), Line and wash (as we usually only add a thin layer of paint to the artwork in this technique) or mixed media/dry mediums. For pure watercolour paintings I would really recommend getting a block of thicker watercolour paper as it makes a world of difference! 100% cotton is best but even paper with a lower cotton ratio will be great for practice.
