Snowed in - Mixed Media Painting
In this class I invite you to slow down and paint a quiet winter scene with me. We focus on a calm night landscape with the northern lights and a small house glowing in the snow.
January’s theme is winter quiet, and that feeling runs through the whole session. I show you how I build a painting in gentle layers.
We start light and soft.
Then we slowly add darker colours and details. I use watercolour as a base and combine it with crayons, coloured pencils, markers and brush pens. I explain why I choose each material and how they work together.
If things feel messy at first, that is part of learning. I guide you through it with care.
We work step by step.
I sketch a simple horizon, mountains and a house. We add warm light around the house and cool blues for snow and trees. I demonstrate how to create the glow of the northern lights and how to use dark night sky colours for contrast.
At the end, I add stars and highlights with a white gel pen. Along the way I share some tips about colour and landscapes. I show how turning a reference photo into black and white helps you see light and dark more clearly. I talk about repeating colours to create harmony. I also show an easy, scribbly way to paint trees so they feel natural and relaxed.
This class is suitable for beginners and more experienced artists. You can use what you already have. I encourage you to experiment, enjoy the process and make something that feels calm and cosy. You are very welcome to paint along with me.
