Oil Pastel Blending & Lavender Field Drawing Workshop

Oil Pastel Blending & Lavender Field Drawing Workshop

In this joyful and colourful session, I shared lots of oil pastel techniques with you—from how to blend colours smoothly, to creating vibrant skies and dreamy lavender fields.

Watch Here:

We explored ways to mix and layer colour to build depth and atmosphere, using both oil pastels and wax crayons.

You saw me demonstrate how to use cotton buds, tissue paper, and even the back of a pencil to blend, shape, and highlight. We talked about layering light colours first, how to approach tricky tones like purple, and how to play with texture to bring your scene to life.

Together we sketched a lavender field step by step, with the aim of capturing the feeling of the place rather than trying to be too realistic. I encouraged you to experiment, to test colours on scrap paper first, and to let go of perfection so your creativity could shine.

Materials we used in the session:

  • Oil pastels

  • Wax crayons (optional, for extra variety)

  • Coloured pencils

  • Cotton swabs or Q-tips

  • Tissue paper or kitchen roll

  • Blending stump or your finger (optional)

  • Drawing paper (textured paper works especially well)

  • Pencil and eraser (for sketching)

I hope you enjoy rewatching the class and taking your time with each technique. Most of all, I hope it inspires you to pick up your pastels and play.
