Course:
Exploring Limited Colour Palettes

  • In this six week course we will explore colour and specifically different colour palettes.

We will look at, and answer these questions:

  • How can you use colour to set a specific atmosphere?

  • How can a limited colour palette help you develop your own art style?

  • How do you find a colour palette that works for you?

"Colour is very much like a bank account. If you dip into it too much soon you will have none“ – Andrew Loomis

Using a limited colour palette forces you to think more about the colour you are using, without selecting colours at random.

A limited colour palettes helps you bring simplicity to your work.

It removes confusion, as you only use the colours that are within your colour gamut. If you’re using blue, white and red, you only have these three colours to choose from – making it simple.

What Materials Do I need?

During this course I will be creating in various mediums and you can join in using the materials of your own choice.

This is not a specific watercolour technique or colour pencil technique class, instead we will be focusing on colour and composition and you will be able to draw and paint along with the materials that have your preference.

Paper

I recommend using a sketchbook or paper that is suitable for a variety of mediums.

What colour palettes will we look at:

Each colour palette that we will look at will require different colours.

When you use paint you can mix the colours but you can also join in using markers, pencils, crayons or other art materials.

If you would like to draw as part of a fun and inclusive group, why not check out the Makings & Musings Community.

In the community we draw and paint together twice a month, you will find art tutorials and lots of inspiration.

The community is perfect if you want to experiment with materials, if you are looking for a reason to make time for art and it is the perfect place to share your work in a safe non-judgemental environment!

Hands on approach

I love a no-nonsense approach to art as the best way to learn is by creating.

we start with quick sketches and I invite you to draw along from the start.

My goal is to get you comfortable with drawing faces, as people are a never ending source of inspiration!  My hope is that you will carry on drawing people after you have completed this course and that I help you finding your own creative voice in the process.

How does it work?

During the course you can see what I do as if you are looking over my shoulder. I explain each step I take and you can see exactly what movements I make.

Share your work

You can share your work with me on social media or by emailing me. I am always happy to help and I love seeing your creations!
